The French Angelfish, Pomacanthus paru, comes from the Western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida to Brazil and throughout the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Juveniles are completely black vertical yellow bands from the mouth to the peduncle; the tail is edged in yellow. Adults are black with scales edged in a soft yellow color. The mouth is white and the eyes are encircled with yellow.

These fish are omnivores and require a diet including marine algae, sponges, mysis and brine shrimp, and angelfish food. They should be fed multiple times a day.

French Angelfish do best in an aquarium that is at least 200 gallons or more and that has plenty of live rock to graze on and hide in. They do not do well with other species of dwarf angelfish or fish that are similar in size or appearance to themselves.

Juveniles are considered reef safe with caution, but adults are not because they are known to nip at clam mantles and corals.
